On 11 May 2023 at the EMTA General Meeting in Oslo, Brussels Mobility formally joined EMTA as a new member.
Brussels Mobility is the organising authority in the Brussels Capital Region for:
- public transport (bus, tram and metro with the exception of trains which remains a federal responsibility)
- other modes of transport (active travel, individual motorised modes, etc.), as well as for parking policy and goods transport (with the exception of waterway maintenance, which is the responsibility of the Port of Brussels).
Brussels Mobility is also responsible for the construction of new metro lines and the renovation of roads in the Capital Region (regional roads, cycle paths, etc.). It carries out this mission of organising authority via its regional Mobility Plan “Good Move” for the period 2020-2030.
Brussels Mobility is responsible for drawing up the new Public Servcie Contract with STIB-MIVB, the internal public transport operator, for the period 2024-2028.

“EMTA is a platform to share knowledge with the largest public transport authorities in Europe, helping us work towards smarter and more sustainable urban mobility” stated Christophe Vanoerbeek, Director General of Brussels Mobility.
The EMTA Secretariat looks forward to engaging with Brussels Mobility and will seek ways to support the implementation of Brussel’s ambitious “Good Move”.
