Kraków’s public transport system has undergone a major transformation with the launch of a new bus service contract and the introduction of a refreshed visual identity.
151 new buses hit the streets by early 2025
On 19 October 2024 Kraków’s streets welcomed the first batch of 89 buses under a new contract with Mobilis. By early 2025, a total of 151 new buses will serve the city, including:
- 91 articulated buses (18 metres) CNG-powered
- 43 standard buses (12 metres) CNG-powered
- 6 MIDI+ buses (10 metres) CNG-powered
- 6 Mini buses (8 metres) Euro6-compliant
- 5 Mini buses (8 metres) fully electric
Designed to meet modern standards, these buses cater to the diverse needs of passengers, including those with reduced mobility. The vehicles also feature a new blue colour scheme, part of the updated visual identity and passenger information system of the Kraków public transport system.
The start of the new contract is also linked to the launch of new lines, which will serve previously underserved areas, fulfilling requests from residents.
All vehicles are equipped with an automatic system for passenger counting. During the first month of the contract over one million trips were made on the new buses.
New visual identity of public transport in Kraków
Public transport in Kraków has been rebranded as KMK (Komunikacja Miejska w Krakowie, “Public Transport in Kraków”). By the end of 2024, 151 buses and 110 trams conform to the new design and passenger information standards, with plans to expand to 438 buses and 200 trams in the coming years. This represent approximately half of the entire public transport fleet.
In August 2024, the City of Kraków updated the Visual Identity Book for Kraków Public Transport Vehicles and merged it with the Passenger Identity Book. Also, a new document called “Passenger Information System of Public Transport in Kraków” was created.
As a result, the KMK logo was created, the visual standards for vehicles, stops and interchanges were unified, and the guidelines for park-and-ride facilities and passenger information systems were defined.
The design, by Clou Studio, incorporates consistent graphic, colour and typographic standards. From now on, all new KMK vehicles will follow these standards.
