The project of new European Regulation on public service obligations in the field of passenger transport was not discussed at the Council of Ministers of Transport in Luxembourg in June because of the opposition of some countries. However, work is going on so as to find a compromise.
The draft might thus be adopted at the end of the year under Danish presidency.
The Danish government, that will take over from the Spanish chairmanship of the EU as of July, has expressed the wish to focus its work on increasing competition for the benefit of businesses and consumers, and to achieve liberalisation of the European railway market.
