In the declaration made on 27 October 2023 in Barcelona, EMTA members:
- Stand responsible for making public transport the preferred choice for most journeys,
- Call for clear and renewed commitments to public transport in national and EU legislations,
- Commit to continue integrating local and regional services into high quality metropolitan public transport systems,
- Call for nuanced regulations that distinguish metropolitan travel demand from long distance travel,
- Call for structural channels for collaboration with EU,
- Call for formal mandates from national and European governments,
- Call for grants towards decarbonisation, including the possibility for metropolitan areas to apply for direct funds with the EU at a scale that reflects the magnitude of challenges at stake.
The declaration was elaborated by the 34 EMTA members and endorsed by political representatives invited to the EMTA conference marking the 25th anniversary of the organisation:
