The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released a survey showing that the transportation sector will overtake industry as the largest energy user in the world by 2020.
Energy used for transportation is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 2,1% and emissions of carbon dioxide are expected to be, in 2030, 70% higher than today. Two thirds of the increase will happen in developing countries.
The director of the sustainable mobility project of the IEA commented: “We cannot continue like we do. The current trends of mobility will eventually lead to unsustainable gridlock, which is bad news both for customers and for business”.
